Ionic Islands Tour
Our trip starts with the crossing of “Otranto channel”; 45 miles divide us from the first greek islands which belongs at “Diapontie islands”: Othoni, knows as Fanò. One of the features of these islands, indeed, is that they all have got two names: the one second one given by venetians.
It is possible to see Othoni already 20 miles away, like a mountainous shadow that stands out on the horizon.
The islands receive its visitors by the west shore with a beautiful beach accessible only by the sea: “Calypso beach” (Aspri Ammos beach). It is a pebble beach, result of the landslide of the falesia. Here, the crystal clear waters allow to watch t beach the anchor on the seabed. Instead, the white pebble beach is too dazzling that oblige you to put your sunglasses on.
Following the coastal line, it is possible to find a natural cave under the old lighthouse on the south of the islands. According to Omero, the goddess Calypso bewitched Ulisse, exactly in this islands. the little marina of Othoni, finite by a clear and comfortable beach, hosts some boat in the harbor, where it is recommended to have a dip in the morning. The seafront is full of restaurants, bars and also 2 market well supplied.
Matraki island, 6 miles away on south-est, is the smallest of Diaponties ‘s islands. It offers a unique panorama which characterizes a wild and uninhabited island except for a cozy restaurant and some fishermen’s house.
12 miles away in est direction, there is Erikoussa (Merlera), characterized by a big beach, half equipped by a hotel and by the new port equipped with showers and all the services.
Erikoussa is recognizable because of its round shape and purple vegetation of “Erica” from where probably comes its name. The city centre consist in some little and familiar hoses by the sea. The beach near the port is the most loved by the visitors because of its big dimension and its crystal clear water. The restaurant-bar “Oasis”, near the beach, cooks typical greek food, delicious souwlaki, tasty tzatziki, accompanied by a cold Greek beer “Mytos”.
Corfù island (Kerkira) is one of the most famous tourist destination. On the islands it is possible to discover several scenarios: white beaches. Crystal clear sea but also byzantine churches and a lot of museum. The little marina of Kassiopi (north of Corfù) usually welcomes us. A necessary step for fuel and water reserve, is Marina Gouvia, the principle touristic port. It is important the taxi service which links to the Corfù city center. Enclosed between two hills, it is featured by paved streets, stone steps, old houses, bizantines venetians churches and picturesque squares.
7miles away from Corfù, on the south, we find Paxos away followed by Antipaxos. It is situated in front of the Epiro coast, one hour away from the beautiful and colored Parga. A place surrounded by a beautiful atmosphere and with the most beautiful sea of the Greece. The night is lived by several tourist dancing in the several bars on the internal channel of Gaios.
